The Fear of the Unknown

Frightened, deeply shaken inside, you can’t move let alone breathe well before embarking on the journey you are not sure of.

One of our biggest problems is the fear of the unknown, whether it’s approaching that girl or guy your heart skips a beat for or quitting your job to give entrepreneurship a real shot.

The question that ponders in our heads “What if I fail, what if this is not the right thing to do”.

We are hardwired to seek security, we need assurance that even when things go sour we still won’t hit the ground and if we do, our mind and hearts beg not to break and loose hope.

The fear of the unknown keeps us tied into whatever version of comfort we currently live in, we stay in the same place simply because we want to be sure of the outcomes of the roads we plan to take. We want to see a glimpse of what the end looks like for the dreams we pursue and the sacrifices we make.

The not-so-kind but profound truth remains, we don’t know how things turn out in the end and as scary as that is, we can draw a bit of hope from the fact that, we’ll never know until we take that leap.

In all the uncertainties the only hope we have is trying, you’ll never know what’s on the other side if you don’t try.

Battle your deepest, darkest fears because after sometime failing won’t seem that terrifying at all, take chances as much as you can. Before working and releasing the one of the bestselling TV series of all time, comedian Dave Chappelle had to pass through hard places. At 14 while trying to pursue his dreams as a standup comedian, Dave was booed off stage but got back up to become one of the best comedians of his time.

As stated earlier, we are never sure of what lies on the other side, and that in itself is both scary and comforting depending on how you look at it.

If we want to be sure of every step we take, where can we get the excitement of life? If we only do things we are sure of, how can we really enjoy the fruits of our struggles. All the troubles, failing and pain along the way is what makes the victory sweet.

Stumble, fall but make sure to get up, you may need to start crawling before you run but keep moving forward.
